INTERPRETERS NEEDED!

Northumbria Police have an urgent need for interpreters available to work in the Sunderland area.

Once registered as an interpreter you would be called on and, if available, be present during tape recorded interviews of suspects, the obtaining of statements from witnesses, the translation of documents, attending identification parades and court sessions.

This is an opportunity not only to help people whose language you that are being held by the police, as well as being a fairly well paid position.

The basis hourly rate is £29 but this can sometimes be as much as £58 per hour and includes payment for any extra time spent travelling. Car mileage expenses are also reimbursed, at 35.7 pence per mile.

However, not having your own transport would not prevent you from becoming an interpreter. Prior to selection, participants would be required to meet with Special Branch and have to state any previous criminal convictions, as well as being required to sign a declaration of secrecy.

Applicants should also be aware that some police matters can take time to resolve and any international students who may be leaving Sunderland within a year should check with Northumbria Police before applying.

Any student requiring further information or an application for should contact the University Police on (0191) 454 7555, extension 66056 or (0191) 515 2028
