FINDING
FORRESTER
Sean Connery
Rob Brown
F.Murray Abraham
Newcomer
Rob Brown makes his acting debut alongside Sean Connery in
Oscar nominated Gus Van Zant's latest film.
It's
the story of Jamal (Brown)a young man from the South Bronx
who's main loves in life are literature and basketball and
a mysterious recluse (Connery) who never comes out of his
apartment. Following a dare from his basketball playing friends
to sneak into Connery's apartment and take something to prove
he's been there Connery startles him and Jamal leaves his
backpack full of his own writings there. He is surprised however
when his bag is thrown back to him from the apartment and
he finds that his writings have been marked as if he was Connery's
student.
This
is the start of friendship between the two and sees Jamal
being tutored by his new mentor who is forever challenging
Jamal's spirit to just give in and quit. Things start going
wrong for Jamal when shortly after being accepted into a Manhattan
Prep school he is accused of plagarism following his entry
into a literature competition.
This
causes more heartache for Jamal when the only way out of this
mess may be to betray one of his best friends deepest secrets.
Look out also for Rapper Busta Rhymes as Jamal's older brother
and a cameo appearance from Matt Damon.
Though
Brown makes an impressive screen debut and Connery is strong
as ever as an, at times bitter old man you can't help feeling
that you know how the whole thing is going to turn out and
at over two hours long it may be a bit of a struggle to watch
this without getting bored especially as most of it is based
in Connery's apartment. This is probably one of those films
that are best left until it comes out on video especially
as there is much better stuff worth seeing at the moment.
